BABY GIRL BEDDING

Baby Girl BeddingHaving a baby girl can be the most fun time for moms and dads since there are so many cute things you can purchase as for baby girl bedding. Within the first years of life, sleep is one of the most important things to both the baby girl and her parents. Having the right baby girl bedding can make a huge difference in the quality of sleep and comfort your baby girl will experience during some of the most important growing and learning years of her life. When thinking of what to get for your baby girl as for baby girl bedding, there are things you should consider.

Below we have covered all topics in choosing the right baby girl bedding for your little princess. We will cover all the topics to make sure you have the right baby girl bedding for your little one which includes going over the issues of safety, comfort, style, themes, care, as well as mattress pads and other related baby bedding information:

Baby Bedding Safety – Safety and Health expert, Debra Holtzman, states;
To prevent suffocation and reduce the threat of SIDS, it is important remove all soft, loose and fluffy baby bedding.

Debra speaks about making sure and removing pillows, quilts, comforters, bumper pads, sheepskins, stuffed toys and other soft products if your baby girl is less than 1 year of age. She also states to never place baby on a waterbed, sofa, soft mattress, pillow or other soft surface to sleep. In recent years, pediatricians have recommended to place your baby girl on her back to sleep at night and nap time. By the studies, placing your baby girl on her back (if one year old or less) can reduce the likelihood of SIDS. For more information on SIDS please check out http://sids-network.org/.

With baby girls older than one year of age, there are still precautions you can take to protect your princess as much as possible. Most baby girl bedding and baby girl sheets today are created to be made of more non-flammable materials. It is always important to check the labels to be on the safe side. Make sure there is no way for your baby to be caught in between bed and wall or in between headboards, footboards or bed frames. Check out your baby girl bedding, mattress, crib or bed to make sure if your little one fell that they would not get caught!

A great place to check for product recalls is to visit The Consumer Product Safety Commission's website. About.com also has some great information regarding recalls here. We also enjoy Consumer Digest website and magazine which gives great recall information on a monthly basis.

Some other baby girl bedding safety tips include:

Make sure you are using a certified and approved modern crib. Many people may want to give you a hand-me-down crib and bedding which may be great as long as it is in good shape and fairly new. It is always wise to provide a new mattress for each child since they wear down just like adult mattresses.

Closely review the crib to make sure it does not have any loose or missing parts/pieces.

Make sure the mattress is tight fitting with as little space as possible between the railing and mattress.

As cozy as you want your baby girl, make sure the mattress is not too soft.

It is written on safety sites that the space between each rail should be less than 2 3/8 inches.

We highly suggest to do your own research as well as ours to make sure you get the most update information since our pride and joy are in our children!

Comfort - Choosing the right comfort factor for your baby girl bedding is not as easy as it is for you. As parents, we have experience in what right bedding is for us. Part of what makes great baby girl bedding is to have soft sheets that are easy to get on and off the bed. You also may want durable bedding in addition to soft "baby approved" cotton top over a waterproof bottom, which is important and helpful, especially if your princess is not potty trained at night or for her naps. A great way is to take your baby girl to a mattress place or baby store that has displays and have her try out the bedding there (if she is old enough to talk). Read the labels on the bedding to see if there is any age group mentioned as there most likely is not an age issue but it is always good to read and ask questions at the store you purchase the bedding from.

Age of Baby Girl - When choosing a baby girl bedding, it is important to include your princess in the decision if she is old enough to talk. Even if your baby girl is not speaking, you may know of her interests by what her favorite videos are and what she gravitates toward in making your decision. Older girls will let you know what their interests are to make their decision on baby girl bedding. Whether princess sheets or pink power, they will enjoy going to sleep at night or for their naps if they are still at that magical age to give us some rest time during the day :) (I could always use information on how to keep them from waking up so early in the morning!)

Washing/Care - When purchasing any baby girl bedding, pillow case covers, etc, there should be labels instructing what you need to do for washing care instructions. Typically, bedding is washable on a cold-water setting. You can tumble dry on low or medium settings and use a cool iron if necessary.

If you have a down pillow and comforter (with older baby girls) we recommend that you protect your comforter from dust/dirt and wear with a Comforter or Duvet cover. A down comforter and pillow should be aired as often as possible. Leave the comforter and/or pillow outside in a shaded area on a sunny warm day so moisture in the down has a chance to evaporate. Shake the comforter and/or pillow daily to help the down stay fluffy. If there is only a small spot that needs washing, the spot can be washed with a wet rag. If it is necessary to wash your comforter and/or pillow, then choose a frontloading washing machine that has a large capacity while washing in warm water on delicate cycle.

Many kids today have allergies to dust. Check out appropriate dust cover sheets which can help in reducing the amount of dust mites that live in bedding.

Style - Baby girl bedding are grouped into two main styles; Classic and Contemporary.

Classic Baby Girl Bedding
When choosing baby girl bedding, there are classic styles that have been popular through-out the years. Check out some of the timeless baby girl bedding below that will always remain popular.

Princess Bedding – Whether she wants to feel like Cinderella or any fairytale princess, you can’t go wrong in baby girl princess bedding! There are wonderful patterns for all ages.

Fairy Bedding - With Disney about to release a new Fairy movie about Tinker Bell and her friends, this is and will become a more favorite baby girl bedding pattern!
Safari/Animal Bedding - Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my! Animal prints have always been a popular baby girl bedding style. These patterns are also popular in older girls and teens.

Pink Power – There is no other popular color with baby girls other than pink! How can you go wrong with a pink room (or accents of pink). Mix and match pink and animal prints and you will have a hip baby girl!

Flower Power - Nothing says stereotypical femininity more than flowers! Choose from a cute variety of styles and your baby girl bedding will look superb (no watering needed)!

Rainbow Colors – Most baby girls love multi colors which can be done tastefully to not overwhelm the princess! There are a wide variety of baby bedding combinations that can look wonderful and colorful to brighten up the room!
Disney Bedding - Whether you have classic Disney (i.e., Snow White and Ariel) or contemporary Disney (Fairies and The Incredibles), Disney has always been a very popular baby girl and baby boy bedding product.

Sesame Street Bedding - For years, Sesame Street characters have been entertaining generations as well as our kids. Sesame Street characters in baby girl bedding is still very popular, including Cookie Monster, Big Bird and the cast of others. Very similar is the Muppets which make fine baby girl bedding and include Miss Piggy and all her friends. Let's also not forget Snoopy who has been around for ages and makes great baby girl bedding.

Ballerina Dancer – Most children love to dance and what says it better than ballerina shoes and dancers!

Fluffy Bedding Patterns – Your little princess most likely loves (or will love) fluffy patterns that have a soft texture. Feux feathers (that are safe) and soft blankets can really accent the room and offer comfort and a great environment for rest!

Animals – Ponies, Teddy Bears, and Rabbits all say soft and cuddly! There are many patterns that incorporate these animals which are cute and offer comfort to your little princess.

Classic Colors - Of course stereotypically, the most popular baby girl bedding color is a shade of pink as mentioned above. Other popular colors are what I would term Pastel colors (green/teal, light yellow, powder blue and cream). Patchwork is also back in style and a great pattern for any baby girl bedding without a theme. Denim and has also been a conservative favorite for many parents with their baby girls.

Contemporary baby girl bedding
We live in a now generation which is filled with marketing and product sales to our children. There have always been trends and styles which come in and go out with the new trends. Below we have listed some of the most current baby girl bedding trends for your review:

Hannah Montana – This is the biggest craze for baby girls that I have seen. Besides crazy ticket sales, Hannah Montana’s marketing for baby girl bedding is a hit! Also, Miley Cirus has some of her own products playing herself that can be of interest to your little one!

High School Musical (1 and 2) – What time is it? Another huge Disney craze is High School Musical which has already come out to stores with tons of products including baby girl bedding!

Fairies – The new Disney movie will make all little girls want to be fairies or at least own one! This will be great baby girl bedding that will be around for quite some time!

Carmen Diego and Friends – Whether your little princess likes Carmen Diego, Barney or Charlie and Lola from TV, these make great baby girl bedding items!
Music/Musical Instruments – Rock out your baby girl’s bedding with some silver stars, musical instruments and flashy sparkly items! All access pass tickets to a cool room!

Checkers and Pok-a-Dots – Patterns are back in style for your little one! Look through various catalogs and online to find the one that your little girl loves the best!

Funky Designs - Picture the 60's or 70's art all over again with tie-dyed, disco balls or mosaic designs. These are usually bedding patterns for the older girls but any age may enjoy these cool designs!

Baby Mattress Pads - Comfort is very important to all of us when we sleep. What more important than for your little princess who should have her bed or crib as soft and comfortable as possible (again make sure the crib bedding is within the safety range as stated above). It is helpful to get a good mattress pad which will help in not only comfort but also for any stains, as they are stain resistant while keeping the mattress in top shape. You can find great mattress pads at www.babiesfirstchoice.com which can also answer any questions you have regarding the baby mattress pads.
